Taking Orders: Napoli on the Road

Spencer Lengsfield, our Senior Food Producer, visits the new Soho location of this multi-award-winning pizza spot.

Where is it?
Just a short walk from Oxford Circus station, Napoli on the Road is in the centre of Soho on Wardour Street.

What’s the place like?
As you enter, you’re immediately greeted by a wall of awards, including Michele Pascarella’s award for World’s Best Pizza Maker, and Europe’s No.1 Pizzeria in both 2024 and 2025. No biggie! The actual restaurant is sleek, modern and minimalist, with soft lighting and pale stone. Despite the simple décor, the space feels warm and buzzing, not sterile or cold. The kitchen is open, showing off the two giant pizza ovens the team uses. The service was fast and friendly, which, given the number of people in the restaurant, is no small feat.

What did you eat and drink?
We started with a couple of salads – the grilled Baby Gem, which came with grilled leeks, blue cheese, beetroot and orange. This was fresh, balanced, and light – a nice way to ease into all the pizza we were about to consume. We also tried the ‘super carrots’, which were new on the menu. It’s a base of carrot cream made with fresh carrot juice, topped with crunchy carrot ribbons, fried sage, pickled walnuts and seeds. We also ordered a side of bread with this to mop up all of the carrot cream, which was definitely necessary. This was both inventive and delicious, and felt more elevated than the sides you would usually expect to see on the menu of a pizza restaurant.

Onto the main event – we of course *had* to try the Ricordi d’Infanzia, a pizza topped with a slow-cooked beef ragu and parmigiano reggiano fondue, and winner of the Best Pizza in the World award 2025. This was obviously delicious, almost reminiscent of a lasagne (one of my favourite ever dishes) but not overly heavy and cheesy, since the parmigiano is the only cheese on this pizza. It had lost a little bit of structural integrity a few slices in, but that is to be expected. We also opted for the Foglie e patate, a vegetarian pizza with a spinach, chard and potato base, mozzarella and cacioricotta from Puglia.

To drink, we went for a glass of white wine (a crisp Caprettone Emblema) and a 'Wpeach' cocktail. The cocktail was a mix of wine cordial, vodka, cognac and peach liquor. It was sweet, surprisingly light and very drinkable. Both great recommendations from our server! The spicy margarita here is also meant to be excellent.

As an extra touch, all of the cocktails are paired with a track from their friends Matt & Andy from BICEP (they also curated the restaurant playlist). The 'Wpeach' was paired with the song Just, if you want to listen at home!

Unfortunately, they weren’t serving the affogato the evening we visited, so I’ll have to visit again to try another one of the many pizzas on the menu and finish with an affogato.

The verdict?
While I’m not sure if any pizza can be deemed the ‘best in the world’, this one is undoubtedly delicious. Napoli on the Road is a very welcome addition to the central-London pizza scene, with a well-executed and thoughtful menu that will keep you coming back for more.
