This is a slightly sweeter take on hangover classic, the Bloody Mary. We don’t know if this cocktail will do much to improve a headache, though!

Ingredients

  • 1 x carrot
  • Lemon wedge
  • Celery salt
  • 100ml carrot juice
  • 50ml vodka
  • 1⁄2 orange
  • 2 tsp maple syrup
  • 1 tsp tobasco
  • 1 tsp brine
  • Cornichons

Step by step

  1. Take a carrot with a leafy top and peel it, discarding the skin, then pare off 6-8 long, thin strips using a veg peeler. Roll up each strip from the narrow end and secure on cocktail sticks. Chill in a bowl of ice-cold water for at least 2 hours.
  2. For each cocktail, run a lemon wedge around the rim of a tumbler then dip into celery salt to coat. Add ice to a cocktail shaker and pour in 100ml carrot juice, 50ml vodka, juice of 1⁄2 orange, 2 tsp maple syrup, 1 tsp Tabasco and 1 tsp brine from a jar of cornichons. Gently stir until chilled then strain into the tumbler, over fresh ice. Add a couple of cornichons and some carrot tops to the cocktail sticks holding a few carrot curls in place on top of the cocktail, then serve.
