Summer holidays 2025 events… by the coast
by Christine Faughlin

We all know food and drink tastes better outside… add the salty tang of sea air and views stretching to the horizon and you have all you need for a memorable day out
Ice-cream masterclass, Salcombe, Devon
Learn how to make award-winning ice cream on Salcombe Dairy’s Salchemist Masterclass, where you’ll also get to taste-test all 21 of the dairy’s ice cream flavours to find your favourite. You’ll also visit its chocolate factory to see bean-to-bar chocolate making in action and then try your hand at making your own bar to take home.
Salt Tasting Tour, Anglesey
On a behind-the-scenes tour with sea salt producer Halen Môn you’ll discover how the team hand-harvests every flake from the sparkling clean Menai Strait, learn the history of salt production in the area of Brynsiencyn, explore an in-house smokery and take part in a tutor-led salt-tasting session.

Taste of Scilly Festival, Isles of Scilly
One of the best ways to sample the produce of this cluster of unique islands is at the annual Taste of Scilly Festival, a lively 10-day celebration of food and drink from 12-21 September. There’s something for everyone, including pop-up farm events, a beehive honey tour and tasting, and a sunset sail with Champagne and canapés.
Summer Feast Nights, Porthcurnick Beach, Cornwall
Dining with the sand between your toes in a spectacular setting is a special kind of magic. The team at The Hidden Hut hosts open-air, live-fire communal gatherings at its ticketed Summer Feast Nights. Dinner is served at one table running right along the beach at low tide, a seashell’s throw from the water. You take plates, cutlery and wine, they provide the food and fire. Be quick, though, as tickets go fast.
Roman Historial Picnic with Foraging, Sandwich
Forage like a Roman with wild-food chef Lucia Stuart who hosts foraging expeditions with a difference on beaches and in habitats around Sandwich and Deal. Taking place on 17 August, you’ll be taken by boat to Richborough Roman Fort, where you’ll search for wild herbs and other bounty that will later be turned into a four-course Roman feast with drinks. You’ll also enjoy a ‘Roman Highlights’ museum tour by English Heritage.

Gin Lab Experience, Jersey
Discover the art and science behind the creation of a bespoke gin (or vodka) when you become a distiller for the day at La Côte Distillery in Jersey, Britain’s most southerly distillery. Coastal botanicals are sourced on the island – some are even grown on the distillery’s rooftop garden!
Catch and Cook experience, Chichester
Whether you’re an avid angler or casting a line for the first time, a full-day ‘Catch and Cook’ experience with the Crown & Anchor pub is not to be missed. Start with breakfast at the pub before embarking on a fishing trip with seasoned fishermen. Once back on dry land, you’ll enjoy a sunset dinner on the pub’s terrace, where chefs prepare the day’s haul alongside platters of grilled sardines, crispy pork cheeks, whole stuffed chicken with wild garlic fritters and a selection of sides.
South Coast Wine Festival, Highcliffe, Dorset
Whether you’re a wine connoisseur or just fancy trying a different drop, head to the historic Highcliffe Castle on 8-10 August to sip some new English wines at the South Coast Wine Festival. There will be masterclasses and tastings led by industry experts, loads of regional wines to discover and some fun live performances.

Oyster festival, Brancaster Staithe, Norfolk
There couldn’t be a better spot to host an oyster festival than the Marshside Terrace at The White Horse, a pub perched over Norfolk’s salty marshes. On 13-17 August, fresh oysters will be pulled straight from nearby oyster beds and shucked before your eyes, while live music rings out against a backdrop of panoramic tidal views and glorious sunsets. The pub is also hosting a Norfolk Lobster & Fizz Festival (25-27 July).
