Senior food producer Spencer Lengsfield visits this new hotel in West London, set within the former BBC Kensington House recording studio.

Where is it?

Less than a five-minute walk from Shepherd’s Bush station, with easy access to the central line and Westfield shopping centre.

What’s the accommodation like?

Inspired by its musical heritage, the design of the hotel is sleek and contemporary, with a hint of 70s flair. Our room was cosy and comfortable, with a warm colour palette of pink, cream and navy, with touches of teak wood and terrazzo marble. A large rainfall shower in the bathroom and a well-stocked coffee station (including a coffee machine) completed the room.

What did you eat and drink?

We had dinner at Flock, the hotel’s signature restaurant with a Mediterranean-fusion-inspired menu and a large pizza oven. To start, we had the kipper pâté and the ‘nduja scotch egg. Any time I see a fish pâté on the menu, I’m ordering it, and this didn’t disappoint, served with toasted bread and cornichons. The ‘nduja scotch egg, however, was the star of the show. It was really fresh, hot and crispy, and slightly spicy with a perfect jammy egg yolk. An excellent start to the meal!

We then had the T-bone steak, designed to be shared, with roasted bone marrow and walnut gremolata. While I prefer a hard sear on my steak, this was very well cooked, and paired nicely with the bone marrow. Alongside the steak we had hispi cabbage with parmesan and chives, and the tomato basil chips. These were very crispy, well seasoned and extremely moreish. The perfect accompaniment to the steak.

On a sweeter note, we had the caramelised banana basque cheesecake. This was very creamy with a great texture and tasted like it was made with real bananas – no artificial flavourings over here. We also had a couple of signature cocktails: the 'Vinyl', a sweet bourbon-based cocktail, and the 'Sunset Soundcheck', which was tart, botanical and fresh. The nod to the hotel’s musical influences was a nice touch, and both cocktails were delicious.

The next morning, we ordered room service for breakfast. Fluffy pancakes with berry compote, syrup and whipped mascarpone, and eggs royale with a beautifully golden hollandaise sauce. This was a lovely sweet-and-savoury start to our morning.

What is there to do?

Later this year, the hotel will be launching the K West Spa, featuring a thermal suite, wellness treatments, a vitality pool, spa garden and a fully equipped gym.

Lasting memory

The hotel staff were absolutely lovely, and we enjoyed a fabulous nightcap of a glass of tequila with the manager!
