Ingredients

  • 100g white or milk chocolate, chopped
  • Cake Décor edible gold glitter spray
  • 6 scoops of vanilla ice cream
  • 450ml espresso

Step by step

Get ahead
Make the chocolate discs up to 2 days before you plan to serve them.
  1. Measure the top of the mugs or cups you plan to serve the affogato in, then draw 6 circles that are 1cm larger than this on a sheet of baking paper. Turn the paper pencil-side down on a flat baking tray (you will still be able to see the pencil lines through the paper). Melt the chocolate in a small heatproof bowl over a pan of gently simmering water.
  2. Spread the melted chocolate inside the circles on the baking paper, trying to get it as even as possible so it will melt evenly later. Spray with the edible glitter and chill for 25 minutes or until set.
  3. To serve, put a scoop of ice cream in each latte glass. Put a disc of chocolate on top of each glass. Heat the espresso until piping hot and pour into a warmed serving jug. Present each glass on a small plate (to catch any overflow) and get your guests to slowly pour the espresso onto the chocolate 'lid', letting it melt and make a hole through which the espresso can flow onto the ice cream.
