Ingredients
- 5 medium Bramley apples (about 900g), peeled, cored and diced
- 100g fresh or frozen cranberries
- 60g caster sugar
- 1 tsp ground mixed spice
- ½ tsp ground cloves
For the crumble topping
- 150g brandy butter
- 200g plain flour
- 50g demerara sugar
Step by step
Get ahead
Make the fruit filling several hours ahead.
- Preheat the oven to 190°C, fan 170°C, gas 5.
- Put the apples in a large saucepan with the cranberries, caster sugar, ground mixed spice and ground cloves, plus 100ml water. Cover and cook for 5 minutes or until the apples start to soften, then tip into a baking dish and leave to cool.
- Make the crumble by rubbing the brandy butter into the plain flour, then stir in the demerara sugar. Scatter over the fruit and bake in the oven for 40-45 mins.
