8 restaurants in Glasgow you need to know about
by Nell Gordon-Hall
We travelled to Glasgow to explore its thriving food scene with chef Peter McKenna as our guide. From celebratory dinners to first dates, here's our round-up of exactly where to go for any kind of occasion.
1. For a celebration dinner
If you’re celebrating, Bistro Eleven Fifty-Five is the place to be. Located in Finnieston, Chef Peter McKenna’s restaurant blends his Irish roots with his love of Parisian bistros, leaning on the best local Glaswegian produce. It has the hallmarks of fine dining with a relaxed neighbourhood energy, and prices that are refreshingly affordable given the calibre of what’s on the plate.
Make sure to try:
- Vietnamese oysters
- Himalayan salt-aged ribeye with café de Paris butter (pictured)
- Choux au craquelin
2. To catch up with friends
For a natter over an excellent martini and some seriously good small plates, book yourself into Corner Shop. The room has a sophisticated, intimate feel that makes you want to stay for one more round.
Make sure to try:
- Grilled chorizo toast with Basque cider and sage sauce
- Any of the flatbreads (pesto and anchovy flatbread, pictured)
- Dirty Perello martini
3. For an anniversary
Holding two AA rosettes, this fine-dining Indian restaurant in the centre of Glasgow knows exactly how to make an evening feel special. The food alone would be reason enough to visit Swadish, but chef Ajay Kumar, 2024 Great British Menu winner, brings a warmth and passion that makes the experience feel personal.
Make sure to try:
- Blue cheese naan bread
- Lamb biryani and date pickle (pictured)
4. For a birthday meal
Five March does laid-back very well, with outstanding food and drinks, and an instant sense of feeling well looked after. For more casual food, their Thursday burger night is well worth trying, and the kitchen caters brilliantly for gluten-free and vegan guests too.
Make sure to try:
- Baby spuds with aioli
- Squid and sobrassada (pictured)
- Banana bavarois
5. For lunch with the in-laws
Made From Grapes is a charming little wine bar, shop and small plates restaurant on Glasgow’s south side. Settle in at the large, airy communal table and take your pick from over a dozen wines by the glass, alongside a beautifully curated small plates menu. The staff are super knowledgeable and happy to steer you in the right direction if you’re unsure what to order.
Make sure to try:
- Torched sardines
- Braised fennel and goat's cheese (pictured)
6. Just because!
A laid-back joint with a four-time award-winning Top Dog burger that's also been awarded a place among the world’s best burgers in 2026, El Perro Negro is a must-visit. Owner Nick Watkins has built more than just a standout burger menu – the whole place has an easy, welcoming energy perfect for eating out with no special occasion.

7. For a first date
Bar Dani is a wine bar and pintxos restaurant in Finnieston, newly opened by the team behind Kelvingrove Café across the road. Owner Alec Dyson wanted a place to eat and drink that doesn’t overshadow the conversation and, inspired by Spanish pintxos bars, Bar Dani is exactly that. The vibe is cool and quietly sexy, making it a great choice for a first date.
Make sure to try:
- Clams and txistorra
- Lamb belly skewer (pictured)
- Lustau Blanco and white grape soda cocktail
8. For date night
Sebb's is an underground restaurant with a romantic feel – food cooked over fire, wine on tap and a record player that DJs show up to spin. The menu is designed to share, making the meal feel intimate by default. It’s a proper date-night restaurant, and since the doors stay open until midnight, dinner can easily roll into a dance.

- Pakoras
