Eating out in… Birmingham

Brunch with friends
Sundays are for sleeping but brunch is guaranteed to lure me out of bed, and Gas Street Social does a brilliant range of dishes – from the virtuous to the full works. The bottomless bellini (£15) is a great way to celebrate.

Battle of the burgers
Arguably the two best burgers in Birmingham are found in Digbeth: The Original Patty Men restaurant in Shaw's Passage (above) and the Meat Shack stall, which pops up at street food extravaganza Digbeth Dining Club.

A real treat
I've tried a lot of afternoon tea places in Birmingham but my favourite is
at The Edgbaston. Make treat time extra special with a cocktail – I like the zesty, gin-based Clover Club 3000 (£12).

Food with a view
With some of the best views in the city, Rofuto is a Japanese restaurant that does more than just sushi. Their black cod (£24, above) positively melts in the mouth. Request a table by the window and watch the city come alive.
