The Cock in Hitchin pays homage to its historic high-street standing, while reimagining classic British cooking.

We have teamed up with the team at The Cock to offer one lucky winner a three-course dinner for two including a bottle of wine.

The Cock’s new menu led by head chef Alex Corley, who has previously worked at three-AA rosette restaurant Thompson St Albans and Gordon Ramsay’s Savoy Grill in London, is specialising in contemporary British cuisine. In this instance, that means a couple of things. Firstly, the dishes themselves give fresh takes on classic UK flavours – but with a little fine-dining elevation. So a reimagined fish and chips is an Orkney scallop with curry sauce, while the chicken nuggets recipe starts with confit chicken legs.

The second way that British food is celebrated here is the produce, with the menu putting home-grown, seasonal ingredients front and centre. Suppliers include a third-generation family-run business that specialises in ethically sourced meats and cheeses (which also happens to supply the royals), as well as seafood from Cornwall and vegetables from St Albans.
