WHISPERING ANGEL , CHÂTEAU D’ESCLANS

Light, fresh, creamy and a pleasing shade of pale salmon pink, this glamorous flagship wine of Château d’Esclans – a vineyard north of
Saint-Tropez – is an excellent example of a world-class, grown-up Provençal rosé. Blended from a trio of grenache, cinsault and vermentino grapes from mostly old vines, it’s known for its delicate, barely there bone-dry finish and, contrary to what you might think, can be enjoyed long after the warmer months are over.

Tasting notes
Expect a tight, youthful intensity on the nose, with well-defined signature red fruit notes of strawberry and ripe raspberry standing out alongside fleshy and bright honeydew melon. On the palate, there are vibrant notes of pink fruit and the freshness of melon contrasted with a creamy, textured and fuller body than previous vintages. On the mid-palate is a hint of pink grapefruit that brings a mouthwatering acidity for a long and lasting finish.

Food pairings
Rosé isn’t just for summer quaffing! Beautifully versatile, you can enjoy Whispering Angel with all kinds of different cuisines. Serve as an aperitif with olives or a charcuterie board, or alongside mains with a bit of spice or a kick of chilli-based heat. Thai curries, Middle Eastern-inspired lamb dishes, sushi platters and Vietnamese dishes are all ideal partners.

MARLBOROUGH HEARTLAND SAUVIGNON BLANC

New Zealand sauvignon blancs are some of the finest in the world, and this is no exception. Marlborough Heartland is a new sauvignon blanc brand set up by David Hohnen, founder of the famous New Zealand winery Cloudy Bay. Driven by a combination of careful plot selection in the lower valleys of the Wairau, Awatere and Waihopai regions and precision winemaking, the result is an intense and flavourful style. It won Silver at the International Wine Challenge 2023, outperforming several heavyweights in the category.

Tasting notes
Bright citrus aromas and notes
of gooseberry combine with a touch of struck-match complexity. On the palate, flavours of juicy lime and passion fruit abound, contained by a fresh and zesty backbone, giving great length and presence.

Food pairings
Fantastic with fish dishes, fresh seafood and shellfish and flaky pastry savoury nibbles. Its zesty core is bold enough to cut through a cream sauce, too, so it works particularly well alongside a warming fish pie.

CASILLERO DEL DIABLO RESERVA ESPECIAL SAUVIGNON BLANC

If you already enjoy Casillero del Diablo sauvignon blanc, then why not try the Chilean winery’s somewhat rarer Reserva Especial? It has all the flavours and aromas you’d expect of a Chilean sauvignon blanc, but is crafted from more superior grapes. The cool breeze from the nearby Pacific Ocean, together with clay soils of granitic origin, are the perfect combination for growing grapes that, when harvested and blended, achieve a really fresh-tasting wine.

Tasting notes
A light greenish-yellow wine with fresh citrus and tropical fruit aromas plus a touch of green apple. On the palate, it’s expressive and has a pleasant freshness from start to finish. Notes of citrus emerge, with grapefruit standing out as a prominent flavour, accompanied by a crisp and lively acidity.

Food pairings
As you’d expect, it’s excellent served chilled with fresh fish and seafood, but it also goes very well with creamy cheeses.

CAFAYATE ESTATE MALBEC

Harvested in Cafayate, Salta – a small, boutique wine-growing region that’s home to some of the highest vineyards in the world – this is an aromatic wine with great concentration and depth. At high altitude the hot, sunny days force the grapes to thicken their skins, resulting in more concentrated colours, tannins, aromas and flavours. Cool nights, meanwhile, help the grapes keep their natural acidity and low sugar content.

Tasting notes
This is a more complex expression of Argentinian malbec, with well-defined red and black fruit aromas and hints of spice and vanilla. It’s medium-bodied with good acidity.

Food pairings
As you’d expect, it is best enjoyed with platters of cured meat, and mains of griddled steak, vegetables and tofu

SANTA JULIA MALBEC

Lush, ripe and soft but also packed with flavour, this bold and full-bodied red has been blended from grapes harvested in high-altitude vineyards in Argentina’s famed Mendoza region. Made by the third generation of the Zuccardi family – one of Argentina’s most respected wine producers – this rich malbec has been awarded silver at the International Wine & Spirit Competition.

Tasting notes
Dark violet in colour, this is seductive and silky with sweet tannins, good structure and a long, smooth finish. It has good complexity on the nose, with typical malbec aromas of ripe fruits such as cherry and plum flavours, and notes of spice.

Food pairings
This is made for pairing with roasted red meats, notably beef or lamb – so if red meat is your Sunday roast of choice, then this is a great pick. DELLA VITE PROSECCO SUPERIORE D.O.C.G.

On most occasions, the sound of a prosecco cork popping is a signal of good times to come. And this award-winning, sustainably made prosecco, created by celebrity sisters Chloe, Poppy and Cara Delevingne, combines good times with good winemaking. Taking its name from the Italian term for ‘of the vine’, Della Vite fuses the latest winemaking technology with traditional production methods to produce high-quality vegan wines that are widely acclaimed.

Tasting notes
Made exclusively from hand-picked glera grapes, it is rich and extra dry with a highly mineral palate that lingers for a satisfying length of time.
