Dine out this summer

There’s no better way to enjoy the summer than taking your dinner plate outdoors. Here are some foodie suggestions for al fresco dining and garden party lunches

Pep talk

The PEPPADEW Brand Sweet Piquant Peppers were made for al fresco eating. Firm and crunchy, these bitesize peppers from South Africa have a layered sweet and tangy flavour that will add a sunshiny boost to whatever you’re serving outside. Slice them onto a rustic pizza, throw them into a pasta salad, or skewer them between meat and vegetables for easy barbecue kebabs.

Greek inspiration

Let’s face it, preparing fresh chicken can get messy. But Sainsbury’s new Just Cook Souvlaki Hasselback is designed to make things easier. The chicken breast has slices in the fillet to allow the delicious marinade flavour to soak into the meat and is stuffed with feta, mint and red pepper. It makes a Greek feast so simple to put together, you can even try it midweek. Sainsbury’s Just Cook British Chicken Breasts in Souvlaki Style Marinade, 340g, £3.75 (£3.25 from 7/7 to 27/7).

Squeezy does it

Rule one of hosting a barbecue is to make sure you get to spend time with your friends and family, which means you’re not in the kitchen all afternoon chopping and prepping. Brilliantly creamy and moreish, Primula’s squeezy and spreadable cheese will also save you time once the grill’s fired up. A favourite with cheese fans since 1924, just squeeze it straight onto burgers, fajitas, nachos and more. Primula Cheese Original, 150g, £1.55 (£1 until 6/7).

The natural choice

Prosciutto di Parma is the perfect option for a summer spread that impresses. Made only in the Parma area in northern Italy, this healthy cured ham is produced authentically, keeping things simple – it’s made with all-natural ingredients and no additives. It’s also delicious, whether enjoyed on its own, as part of an antipasti platter or cooked into your favourite summer recipes. Italian Parma Ham by Sainsbury’s, 133g, £3.50 (£3.25 until 6/7).

All dressed up

There are few things more summery than a bright seasonal salad served in the open air. This year, try pairing your veg with Farrington’s Cold Pressed Rapeseed Oil. Sustainably produced on their Northamptonshire farm, the oil is rich in omega 3 and its subtle nutty taste is delicious in dressings. What’s more, it has a high smoke point – making it perfect for veg kebabs on high-heat barbecues. Farrington’s Mellow Yellow Cold Pressed Rapeseed Oil 500ml, £4.50 (£3.50 7/7 to 27/7).

Keep it cool

If you’re seeking a refreshing lunch in the summertime heat, Alvalle’s Original Gazpacho is your go-to. With a recipe that comes from the Spanish hills of Murcia, this tasty chilled soup is made from 100% fresh vegetables and counts as one of your five a day. Even better, this healthy lunch alternative is ready in no time – just pour and serve with bread or salad for a Mediterranean-style meal. Alvalle Original Gazpacho, 1l, £3.90.
