Taking orders: Ham Yard Hotel Restaurant, Soho
The Ham Yard Hotel

Sunday lunch in Central London can be a hit or miss affair, but this feast at the Ham Yard Restaurant in Soho is a hit from start to finish says Content Director, Helena Lang.

Where is it?

Tucked away in a tiny courtyard on the edge of Soho the Ham Yard Hotel is a stunning venue for drinks, dinner and more. They have just launched a new Sunday ‘long lunch’ menu, which can be enjoyed in the beautiful, eclectic dining room, or outside in the courtyard on a sunny day.

What’s all the fuss about?

This is an excellent value offering considering the location, the ambience and most especially the quality of ingredients and cooking. Served every Sunday between 12pm-5pm accompanied by live music you can tuck into 1 course for £35 pp, 2 courses £44 pp or the full three courses for £53pp. You also get a glass of wine from their selection of magnums thrown in.

What’s the place like?

Buzzing with families, cool couples, diners in dickie bows and gaggles of friends the tables are well spaced, the service is warm, friendly and professional and you have the inspiring décor to gawp at too.

What did you eat and drink?

I chose the Wild Garlic and Pink Fir Potato Soup to start with and it was pumped with flavour and the freshest green in colour. The Comté toastie that accompanied it was inspired. My other half plumped for a classic Atlantic Prawn and Avocado Cocktail and stuck to the traditional Roast Aged Rump of Beef complete with Yorkshire and horseradish for main. I on the other hand couldn’t resist the Monkfish Wellington, a puff-pastry triumph with spinach mousse, Parma ham and roast chicken gravy. We also loved the ‘endless sides’, dishes of Roast Koffmann potatoes, tenderstem broccoli, glazed carrots and cauliflower cheese…you can order more if you decide to eat it all. For dessert we shared a Ham Yard Snickers Bar from the beautifully presented dessert trolley, a calorie-laden slice of chocolate, salted caramel and peanut butter.

Your verdict?

Meeting up with old-friends? Got a family gathering or celebration to organise? Or just want to spend time over good food with someone you love? Then this is a brilliant place to do it. You are guaranteed to leave in a much better frame than when you arrived!

Lasting memory

The hefty slices of monkfish wellington…I wish I could tuck into that every Sunday.
