8 of the best sunshine terraces

by Anne Robinson

Summer has arrived in the UK and that can only mean one thing – finding a rooftop bar where you can sip a cocktail or three. Here are some of our favourite bars and terraces across the UK, perfect for lazy summer days (and nights!).

Mondrian London at Sea Containers, London

With additional seats on the Sea Containers terrace, guests can now choose to brunch alfresco. What's more, you can also design bespoke Bloody Marys by selecting your preferred ingredients from a tick-box menu. The personalised cocktail will then be mixed at their new Bloody Mary cart.

The Lugger Inn, Cornwall

Further south, The Lugger in Penzance has recently undergone a complete outdoor terrace refurbishment. It's now the perfect place to enjoy a traditional Cornish cream tea, or hang around until later in the evening to take advantage of the area's famous Dark Sky Reserves and the wondrous star-filled night sky.

Marco Pierre White's rooftop Champagne bar is modern and ultra-chic, plus the 25th-floor terrace boasts panoramic views of the city.

Great John Street, Manchester

Heading north, this bar is a must-visit with a chic-yet-relaxed feel. It's perfectly located, just a stone's throw from the city's most exclusive shops and theatres.

South Place Hotel, London

A favourite of our food director, Sarah, South Place Hotel's Angler Rooftop Terrace brings a little bit of Provence to the heart of London, with planted lavender, herbs and olive trees, and stunning designer furniture.

Bohemia, Brighton

Get a bird's eye view of Brighton from this classy rooftop spot that can be found just a short stroll from the seafront. Expect AstroTurf, oversized parasols and Champagne buckets. This is one of the best places in town for an indulgent pit stop.

Sands Hotel, Margate

Our picture editor, Leanne, recommends this place for a relaxed alfresco lunch with stunning views out to sea. It's open for breakfast, morning coffee, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner.

La Suite West hotel, London

The hotel has just opened its Sunshine and Twilight Terrace, providing the perfect sanctuary from the noise and chaos of the capital. Enjoy alfresco dining and mocktails here on warmer days and balmy nights.
