Nigel Slater's new book: Eat

On Tuesday evening I was invited to Dock Kitchen in Ladbroke Grove, London, to celebrate the launch of Nigel's new book Eat: The Little Book Of Fast Food (Fourth Estate, £26). Nigel has written for Sainsbury's magazine since day one and his first column followed the publication of his book Real Fast Food.

Nigel Slater and Mary Berry

In April 2013, we invited our magazine friends and contributors to Sainsbury's London HQ to celebrate Sainsbury's magazine's 20th birthday.

From fantastic writers, photographers and stylists, to some of the biggest names in food, it was wonderful to get everyone together who makes the magazine so special – and it gave us the perfect opportunity to say a big 'thank you' and raise a toast to the next 20 years.

Lunch with Nigel Slater

We spent the day on a photo shoot with Sainsbury's magazine star writer Nigel Slater for our very special 20th-birthday May issue. Nigel wrote a recipe for the very first issue way back in May 1993 and is still a regular contributor – something we're very proud of. We rented a gorgeous location house in north London and had a busy morning with photographer Jenny Zarins taking lots of great pictures of Nigel. We kept lunch simple – sourdough bread, buffalo mozzarella, olives, wedges of little gem lettuce and a basket of ripe tomatoes.
